Your First Visit

What Should You Expect On Your First Visit With Us?

When you first visit our office you will be greeted by Patty, our office manager. Likely you will have already spoken with her on the phone when you called to make your appointment. Patty will have a small amount of paperwork for you to fill out before you meet with Dr. Sykes.

You will then meet with Dr. Sykes for a consultation to discuss any health concerns you have. She will ask questions to learn more about your health to see if she may be able to help you. If she feels that your case is not a chiropractic case, she will refer you to someone she believes can help you. If she feels she could help you she will explain how chiropractic care works, how it may help you, how her office differs from many other chiropractic offices as well as how she evaluates a patient to determine how best to treat them.

After Dr. Sykes has finished your consultation and answered your questions, she will recommend a specific chiropractic examination. During this examination she will evaluate your posture while you are standing. Posture is the window to your spine, so if the doctor detects any problems with posture it means the underlying structure of the spine is misaligned. She will also conduct range of motion testing, check balance and how your body is distributing your weight.

At this point Dr. Sykes may recommend standing postural x-rays to determine exactly where and to what degree the spine is out of alignment, and to see if there is any spinal arthritis that may complicate your case.

If your case is acute, then the doctor may recommend some treatment on this initial visit with a follow up appointment scheduled for a report of findings and recommend-ations for treatment.

If your case is not acute then the Dr. Sykes will recommend that you schedule a follow up appointment to review her findings and recommendations. This report of findings visit can be scheduled within 1-2 days of your initial visit and treatment could begin then.

Dr. Sykes is located in North Andover and sevices the surrounding areas of Bradford ,Haverhill, Boxford, Methuen, Andover and Lawrence.
